Beware! Of Extra Timeshare Charges At Las Vegas Cancun Resort at Checkout.

(Beware of extra charges before booking your exchange into Cancun Resort in Las Vegas!)

Well, this was a first for me and my wife in the 10 years we have been vacationing in timeshare resorts.

When we checked into the Cancun Resort on March 6th we were informed that the resort requests a credit card hold of $100 in case of extra charges during the week. This is normal and that was OK. We did not incur extra charges during the week. At check-out we were informed we owed Read the rest of this entry »

A story of hard luck at the Excalibur Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada 3-9-11.

(A word of caution when booking hotel rooms in Las Vegas)

Last night my wife and I attended a show and dinner at the Excalibur Casino and Hotel in Las Vegas, NV. We earned the right to the show tickets and dinner by attending another timeshare presentation. We will tell you about that presentation later in this blog. The show was called the “Tournament of Kings”.

Anyway, we were sitting next to a couple from Pennsylvania who flew to Las Vegas for the week and had booked into the Excalibur for the week in one of the hotels standard rooms described on Excalibur’s Internet site as: “Our rooms feature warm, comforting tones and hardwood furnishings. Its the perfect place to relax and prepare for your next adventure. Hotel rooms feature cable TV, hair dryers and irons.” What they told us next made our heart jump!

The room they paid for was located at the end of a hall near an exit. Sometime during the night they heard their room phone ring several times. The phone was somewhat muted and they didn’t answer it because they were not expecting any calls and assumed it was a hotel message. They told us that they had $900 cash in the husbands pocket. That was all the money they had for this trip. During the night a thief apparently came into their room at the Excalibur and robbed them of the $900. They were sound asleep and didn’t hear a thing. They did not discover the theft until the next morning. They reported the theft to the Excalibur security and were required to make a police report with the Las Vegas police dept. They had their son-in-law wire money to finish out the week. They did not rent a car while in Las Vegas. They came directly from the Las Vegas airport via shuttle. Chances of recovery are slim to none.

They surmised that it was a inside job from someone at the hotel. The husband, while at the front desk, stuffed his money in his front jeans pocket and that someone saw that. They also figured that the phone ringing was an attempt to determine if anyone was in the room and that the thief came up when no one answered, assuming that the room was empty, and the occupants were in the casino.

So, this article is merely a note for anyone staying at any hotel or motel to exercise caution when doing any type of traveling.

Note: My wife and I have never had anything like this happen at any timeshare resorts we have stayed at.  And we keep lots of stuff out during our stays, computers, change on the tables, etc, etc.  So far so good!

Cancun Resort - Las Vegas - March 6th, 2011

We arrived at this Las Vegas, NV resort on Sunday March 6th and checked in at 4:30 pm. The entrance to this resort is really impressive. You would think you were in Mexico with all the palm trees around the resort. We always look at the entrance to each resort as an indication of the luxury we expect with our timeshare vacations.

The huge sign Welcoming us to the Cancun Resort, A Monarch Grand Vacation Resort, Las Vegas, NV

The huge sign outside also was a Welcome sight. The lobby is always, to us, another impression of luxury. Here is a picture of the check-in area

of the Cancun Resort in Las Vegas. The check-in process took less than 10 minutes. This is a dual RCI and II affiliated resort.

This is a beautiful resort from the outside but has some shortcomings that we will discuss on our evaluation pages shortly.
