Is The RCI Points Similar To Big Government Control?

This Is My Opinion Only About The RCI Points Program And Big Government Similarities

RCI Points program and big government similarities. Here I am driving along with my wife and this thought comes into my head. Most of you know that my wife and I own 3 deeded weeks of timeshare at 3 different resorts. We do not own RCI Points and don’t want to. Each resort has their own individual time share property owners association that meets annually. We are notified annually of these meetings. Since two of the resorts, The Village at Izaty’s and Pelican Green’s at Breezy Point, Minnesota are within 4 hrs of our home we try to attend the meetings to see how things are progressing. This is not Big Government in action, it is owners of timeshare who have volunteered their time to make sure everything is property taken care of and that the resort accommodations are kept up to 5 Star status.

These volunteers meet several times each year to discuss any problems or situations that need taken care of and approve or disapprove of those items that need to be taken care of. They then authorize the resort manager to take care of the situation.

At each of the resorts the time share owners purchased a certain week based on what they could afford and what they wanted to use the resort for. They paid off the mortgage for the week they purchased. All they have left than is the annual maintenance fee for as long as they own their week.

Now here’s where I personally think the RCI point program has changed the original concept of timeshare. Like big government RCI decides they can make more money with points Read the rest of this entry »

RCI Points And The Scam It Seems To Be!  Our Opinion Only!

The RCI Points Program Has Short Changed Consumers TimeShare Owners

My wife and I have never been sold on the RCI points system nor have we recommended it in any of our posts or pages. The recent article in TimeSharing Today states that the consumer class action lawsuit settlement against the RCI Points program is moving forward. Think about it. It’s a  system so subject to abuse by RCI management, and beyond the control of timeshare owners who were looking forward to really nice vacations .

My wife and I have been through many RCI Points sales pitches, and to the average person, the idea that you can use points for airlines, cruises, hotels and motels seems really the ideal way to vacation. The idea of buying one deeded week of vacation time for the rest of your life just went out the window with the points program. It’s a fairy tale and totally unrealistic. It is no longer timeshare. It’s buying air.  We have been to RCI Read the rest of this entry »

Even though this information is off of the Tug2.net forums this is another reason my wife and I do not like points. We prefer trading our timeshare vacation weeks for timeshare vacation weeks at another resort, like the system originally started out more than 20 years ago, the switching to the point system by RCI International has created Read the rest of this entry »

RCI – Fluctuations in TPUs?

I have been searching fo ra Myrtle Beach 2-bedroom for next summer – with an ongoing search and I check manually almost daily. The ongoing search picked up a unit in Garden City Beach for 27 TPUs which exactly matched one of my deposits. I released the unit based on location and resort reviews (small units). That unit is now Read the rest of this entry »

Wall Street Journal: Why Relative Usage Value Impacts Timeshare Points Systems!

An Excellent Article by Richard Marquette About the RCI Point System. We Prefer Deeded Weeks As We Have Mentioned in a Lot Of Our Articles. Who Determines Points & Value?

August 25, 2011

by Richard Marquette- Orlando, Florida

As the timeshare industry continues to evolve into points based ownership systems, the relative usage value ( one of the reasons my wife and I are not sold on the RCI Point System See our story of Breezy Shores Resort here in Minnesota by Clicking here) of affiliated resorts has become an incredibly important factor for consumers of vacation ownership products. As developers add new resorts to their portfolios, the location and accessibility of these new resorts can pose a major threat to the future usage and satisfaction of current owners.

Regulation varies by state, but most points based timeshare programs in the United States are restricted from overselling the total capacity of its affiliated resorts. However, consumers may find that developers are able to oversell the Read the rest of this entry »
