Owners Complain About The Point System Assigned To This Resort By RCI.

We keep our sailboat on Detroit Lake during the summer. If we were to consider buying a resale week at this resort, we would only purchase a summer week and only use it at the resort, but not become a member of the RCI Exchange program.

Just a week or so ago my wife and I decided to check out Breezy Shores Resort And Beach Club , an RCI Affiliated resort not far from our Pelican Rapids, MN home. It was a nice day for a ride, and we wanted to see this resort and pass on this information to you.

on the main beach a few blocks south of the main downtown area. Easy walking distance from the downtown area. This is the one time of the year that we love to be sitting on our sailboat where we, with many other people, watch the activities on the one mile of beach. There are all kinds of restaurants along this one mile of beach. We even order pizza and have it delivered to our sailboat when we are docked in the slip. I digress from the topic of timeshare, but not really.
If you are a warm weather vacation type of person, trading into Breezy Shores Resort Beach Club would be a highly recommended resort from our point of view. Since we are not RCI members, we don’t know really how it works. We did find out some interesting things while visiting the resort. It is not a really big resort, acreage wise, but it is located on the main road of summer entertainment. Here is a map

facing the lake have a great view and are within 150 feet of sandy beach and boat docks for timeshare owners. You can rent boats or bring your own. Paddle boats are also available.

It is a very nice, restful and peaceful area with plenty of trees to keep you cool in the shade. But not more than 300 ft behind the timeshare condos is the main road running along the lake where all kinds of summer activity take place.
We would only buy a deeded summer vacation week, for usage, and not trading. The resort offers a family atmosphere with nice grounds with beach and boating areas. The clubhouse is not large but adequate with a nice indoor pool and game area

necessary to keep kids busy when not outside.
Within walking distance of the resort are a number of different types of restaurants such as Lakeside Tavern and Zorbaz, and these all face the lake. The view from most of the restaurants is very good. Evening entertainment abounds, with music and other types of entertainment, along the one mile beach front.
We visited with the office person at this resort and told her that we own a timeshare at Breezy Point, Minnesota, but we were not members of RCI. We explained that we write stories about timeshare resorts that we visit and wondered if Breezy Shores Resort and Beach Club had any timeshare weeks listed “for sale”. She gave us a list of owners at Breezy Shores who would like to sell their units.

Some facts to consider if you are interested in owning a timeshare week at this resort. Information from the office person at Breezy Shores was somewhat disturbing. This resort started out 20 years or so ago as being an RCI deeded week resort . Somewhere along the line, the deeded timeshare week owners were sold a bill of goods by someone as the deeded weeks are now on the point system. The deeded weeks are still valid if you own at this resort but if you belong to the RCI membership exchange system, your deeded week is only traded based on RCI points that have been assigned to a particular week.
Breezy Shores Resort & Beach Club does not even have an RCI Gold Crown, RCI Silver Crown or RCI Hospitality designation in their directory. So, from what we have determined, the trading points assigned to this resort if you were to use the RCI exchange program is not good.
So, here is our opinion. Since my wife and I are only interested in summer weeks, we would only buy a deeded summer week at Breezy Shores Resort & Beach Club for summer usage. If you look at the customers who are willing to sell their summertime weeks at this resort, the prices are in the $2,500 to $3,500 range. We recently purchased a prime timeshare week at Breezy Point, MN for only $400 on the resale market. We think there should be negotiating room with owners who own summer weeks at Breezy Shores and Beach Club. We would not recommend becoming a member of the RCI exchange program through this resort
