Nevada, The Ridge Tahoe
We highly recommend “The Ridge Tahoe” at Stateline, NV
Seven years ago, June 2004, we exchanged our timeshare at the Treetop Village Resort in the Ozarks into The Ridge Tahoe Interval International (II) affiliated resort to The Ridge Tahoe at Stateline, Nevada.
View Larger Map According to the Interval International book information, the year-around resort was adjacent to Heavenly Ski Resort above Lake Tahoe. Each one-and two-bedroom unit has a fireplace and equipped kitchen. Amenities included tennis courts, swimming pools, private ski gondola to Heavenly’s Stagecoach Lodge, racquetball, spa and recreation facility, saunas, steam room, whirlpools, a deli, convenience store, theater, business center and security gate entrance.
Well, when a person would read a description like this, who wouldn’t want to try and exchange into a resort like this? We did, and we got the exchange request within a couple of weeks. The amenities that were offered sounded great. We were very excited. Another reason for the excitement was having our son and his new bride join us within a few days after we checked into the resort.
When we arrived at Stateline, NV we found a winding drive up to the 7,700 foot elevation resort very interesting and fascinating.
My wife and I are not skiers. This was a June vacation, after all. So, getting to the resort from the main street or road going into Stateline tourist and casino area would require driving every day. We had underground parking with elevators to our 6th floor condo. What really helped also, was finding out that the resort had a shuttle we could use to go into Stateline. We did use it.
One of my thoughts was what would we be doing while at the resort in June. Rest assured, our week did not lack for things to do at the resort. In 2004, wireless Internet access from our two bedroom condo on the 6th floor was not very good. But the resort had a very nice wireless area by the convenience store where we could keep in touch with the outside world. We used it daily. The resort check-in area and convenience and shopping area are in a large building within 250 to 300 feet from the building where we had our condo. Nice walking distance. I could not locate pictures of the check-in area that I had taken, but rest assured, it was a quality, well- kept 5 Star Resort.
So, let’s give you a peek at the unit we had for a full week.

The kitchen area in our two bedroom condo at "The Ridge Tahoe". Two bedroom unit with bedrooms to the left and right of the kitchen.
The kitchen area is, according to my wife, one of the most important areas to her because she loves to cook even while on vacation. Very seldom do we eat out when vacationing in our timeshare condos. We enjoy getting up in the mornings, grabbing a cup of coffee, and just enjoying the facilities. We sit around and talk about what we would like to do, but we really take it pretty easy the first day after checking in. Because we do a lot of exchanging to other resorts, it involves maybe one to three days of traveling before we get to the resort we have exchanged into, and we just want to take it easy that first day after arriving at a resort.
What would you like to see next? Well, how about the bedroom area? It was a large bedroom off of the kitchen and bath area including a king-size bed, large TV, and a huge circular window looking out over the mountain top at other private homes and ski condos at the 8,000 ft level over looking Lake Tahoe. WOW! What a view. There was also a door from the master bedroom right onto a deck overlooking the mountain top area. Tell me you wouldn’t like a view like this.

A large circular window from our master bedroom. The window view was fantastic! And a master bedroom door leading onto a patio on the 6th floor of the condo.
Now, look at the view of the balcony area as we walk out of the master bedroom onto the balcony. This was going to be a great week even if we never left the condo. Just the view alone to a Midwesterner from Minnesota was glorious. See for yourself!

Now for the view. I know you have been waiting. Check this out folks, and tell me that the wait was not worth it.
Here are some of the activities we took advantage of during our stay here at “The Ridge Tahoe” at Stateline, NV. We could have stayed another week and not run out of things to do. We booked a horse riding adventure in mountainous Nevada. The view from horseback in the wooded areas above Lake Tahoe was breathtaking. Sharing it with our son and his new bride was also very special.

I'm looking back to see if my daughter-in-law is OK and just having fun. High in the mountains overlooking Lake Tahoe.

The next adventure was hiking around a small lake not far from the main tourist area of Stateline. This was very enjoyable. It was a very easy hike and not strenuous. Easy for older folks like us. Our son joined us, also, which was an added benefit.

My wife and I on a very easy walk around a small lake. We followed a well defined trail. Our son took the picture.
My wife loves birds. We could hear and see the different variety of birds on this walk around the lake making it that much more fun. A totally different terrain from the mid-western area we come from. The beauty of timeshare resorts is that they are usually located in areas of the country and world where tourists like to vacation.
Well, what’s next? On our way to the horseback trail riding, we drove past an area near Lake Tahoe where it appeared to be a lot of tourists. We could also see some large boats. Oh, oh! We’ll have to check that out when we get done with the horseback riding.
After getting off the horseback riding adventure, on our way back to our timeshare condo, we stopped at the area near the lake where we saw all the cars and tourists. It was a departure area for Woodwind Sailing Cruises on Lake Tahoe. We picked up the literature and headed back up the mountainside to our timeshare unit at “The Ridge Tahoe” to plan our next excursion. <p>
After resting back at the condo, we looked over the brochures of the Woodwind Sailing Cruises and decided to book a dinner cruise aboard a catamaran,
something we had never done before. We are amateur sailors back home. How can one describe the beauty of what we saw? The lake is very deep, and the water is very cold. Here are a couple of pictures that will better show what we saw. I guess a picture is worth a 1,000 words.

Well, where do we go from here? We did spend part of one day taking the shuttle from “The Ridge Tahoe Resort” down the mountain to the main tourist and casino area of Stateline, NV. It was a money- losing proposition in the casinos, but the rest of Stateline and the tourist area was worth the trip. I never knew this, but ski gondolas from the top of the mountain come practically all the way down to the main area of town. This must really be a swinging area of skiers during the winter months. I’m not a cold weather person. Our summertime timeshare vacation here was great.
One day at “The Ridge Tahoe”, my son suggested that he and I go for a trail hike farther up the mountain from our condo. That I was willing to do while my wife and his bride would stay in the private pool at the condo. He and his wife, Kristin, had two-way radios to stay in touch with one-another in case anything happened. Well, OK, but what in the world could happen? So Heath and I started on the mountain hiking trail just outside the timeshare condos maybe 300 ft or so from our condo. So, wouldn’t you know, after a short bit of walking we spotted a timber wolf just off the trail.

A timber wolf just off the trail as we were walking in high elevations above the timeshare condos. Pretty exciting to see something like that.
It did not appear to be aggressiv,e so we continued up the trail. I walked somewhat slower, and my son asked if he could go ahead at a quicker pace farther up the mountain. That was fine with me. I would stick with the trail and see him on his way back down. Well, to prove that the resort was not at the top of the ski mountain, he took some GPS elevation shots of the altitude.
Here also is a summer shot of a ski -chair lift not far from the trail, higher up the mountain from our condo. Look at the ground under the ski chairs. Rocks, trees and rocks.

Our son, Heath, taking a picture of himself at the top of this mountain trail and his GPS reading. Having fun is what it is all about, right?
- and me waiting on the trail farther down the mountainside.
My son and his wife took advantage of another benefit of staying at a 5 Star timeshare resort like this. They treated my wife and themselves to a Spa treatment.I guess they are great. My wife enjoys it. I prefer my coffee on the patio overlooking the mountainside.
Finishing up another successful day with the family. It just does not get any better than this, does it?
