Government “Light Bulb” Laws Affect Your timeshare

Maintenance Fee’s…

The timeshare maintenance fee’s at all three of our deeded timeshare properties have pretty much remained the same over the last couple of years.

One of the reasons is at each of the resorts the former developer of the timeshare properties has relinquished the property control over to the timeshare owners.  That means the timeshare owners themselves appoint a local timeshare owners board of directors. That usually involved volunteers owners who have an interest in helping maintain the property in good condition.

That brings up light bulbs…

What do light bulbs have to do with our “maintenance fee’s”?  Well, next time you are on a timeshare vacation look at all the light bulbs in your unit and multiply that number by the number of timeshare units at your resort and think about the amount of money spent just on that item itself.

Remember, this was government mandated by “do gooders”. It cost a lot of money. The newer light bulbs are 10 to 30 times more expensive.

This law was reversed a few years later, but the damage had already been done. The incandescent manufacturing plants in the United States were closed and over 200 people lost their jobs. The new light bulb plants were re-opened in China and the new light bulbs cost more money.  Hmmm!  Interesting!

So, sometimes maintenance fee’s are raised because of government rules and regulations that are beyond your timeshare board’s control.
